Learn by doing with the GlitterBug® potion and powder

Did you know that handwashing is the simplest, most effective defence against food poisoning? Do you know how well you wash your hands?  Have you done the GlitterBug®? 

At Cormorant, we are passionate about effective handwashing!  So much so, we encourage our clients to use the Handwashing Discovery Kit that brings together items you need to demonstrate:

• Cross contamination
• Effective handwashing technique.

The GlitterBug®  fluorescing powder and potion are used to represent pretend bacteria.  They show as white, bright spots under long wave UV light.

Depending on your training needs, you can purchase full or mini Handwashing Discovery Kits.

GlitterBug® potion is great for handwashing demonstrations!  A little potion goes a long way and the 240ml bottle is enough for over 200 applications.  Just put a little of the potion on your hands and rub it in.  After washing your hands, place them under the UV light - lo and behold all the bits you have not washed effectively show up as little white spots.  Use the potion to reinforce good handwashing - especially rubbbing around thumbs, cuticles and finger nails.  You'll be amazed what shows!

GlitterBug® powder can be used effectively with the ball or papers to demonstrate cross contamination - a concept that is sometimes difficult for food handlers to grasp.  One bottle of powder is enough for hundreds of illuminating demonstrations.  Just place a little on your hands and rub them together.  Pick up a plastic ball and throw it to all staff members in turn.  Pass the torch over their hands and hey presto - white dots will show on the hands where they have touched the ball.  It shows how 'bacteria' from your hands can pass to others without you having touched anyone directly!  What are your food handlers passing around the kitchen?
